After my sterling Wild Card weekend (1 out of 4 correct), it is time for some redemption. I suppose I learned a lesson that Tarvaris Jackson should never be trusted, even if Andy Reid is calling plays for the other team. Let’s take another look into my ever-cloudy Divisional Crystal Ball:
Baltimore at Tennessee
Am I supposed to be surprised that Ed Reed is picking off Chad Pennington passes and running them back for touchdowns? Wild Card weekend was supposed to be a revelation for me? Anyhow, my question for the divisional weekend is whether or not I have faith that rookie Flacco can pull off a 2nd road playoff win. My answer is yes. I love the swagger and trash-talk of the Ravens D, and I think that while the Titans are solid, they are catching the Ravens at the wrong time. Ravens 20, Titans 14
Arizona at Carolina
I tried to talk myself into the Cardinals due to my intense hatred for Delhomme. Just couldn’t do it. The Panthers are a completely different home team vs. road team, and the Cardinals are walking into the proverbial buzz saw. Given his toughness, I still don’t buy that A. Boldin is going to sit out; however, I think he’ll be ineffective if he takes the field. Finally, the Panthers will not make the same mistakes that the Falcons made last weekend, and that is the difference between winning and losing. Living and dying even. Panthers 34, Cardinals 21
Philadelphia at New York Giants
The Giants are in for a scare. I predict Eli struggling through the 1st half, perhaps lobbing a pick or two over to the Eagle D. Obviously what DeAngelo Williams and the gang did to the Giants D is still fresh in my mind, but Brian Westbrook is not playing at a high level running the football. This game will be the best of the weekend, with the Giants prevailing in the final minutes with a patented long, sustained drive. Giants 21, Eagles 20
San Diego at Pittsburgh
The Chargers are on borrowed time. Unlike the Colts, the Steelers D is not going to allow Darren Sproles to run wild. If the weather is at all a factor, the Chargers will self-destruct. When these teams matched up last, Pittsburgh played one of their worst games of the season but still won, and I think the 1st round bye will help Pittsburgh. We’re headed for an AFC North AFC Championship folks. Steelers 17, Chargers 6
