It didn't take long for Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to make a splash in free agency. Minutes after the 2009 free agent season began, the Redskins inked cornerback DeAngelo Hall to a 6 year 54 million dollar deal. Hours later Shawn Springs was released from the team.
By the time everyone woke up Washington made history by signing the top free agent available in DT Albert Haynesworth to a record-breaking 7 year 115 million dollar deal. Haynesworth is the first defensive player to sign a 100+ million dollar contract.
Other items of note:
Bart Scott and Rey Lewis are probably no longer speaking as Scott and the Jets agreed on a 6-year 48 million dollar deal. With Scott in the fold, the Jets most likely won't persue Lewis. That leaves Lewis' top dollar options to only Baltimore...unless another team surfaces. That can't make the future hall of famer happy. Watch out for that shank to the ribs Bart!
The Cleveland Browns have traded motorcycle-riding TE Kellen Winslow Jr. to Tampa Bay for undisclosed draft picks. The rumor is that the Browns will get a 2nd round and conditional 2010 5th round choice.
The Titans and Kerry Collins signed a 2 year deal for 15 million. So, one more season and back to the Vince Young saga?
Former Jacksonville RB, Fred Taylor signed with the New England Patriots. The Patriots also traded away OLB Mike Vrabel to Kansas City.
While most media outlets were reporting that the Bengals were working on a deal to keep WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh in Cincinnati, nothing ever happened and TJ is reportedly on a plane to Seattle. Bengals fans can forget about TJ staying. It won't happen even though it probably "should" happen.
The Bengals are in the running for former Giants RB Derrick Ward as he will be visiting the Bengals this weekend.
The Bengals did manage to sign one of their own as safety Chris Crocker re-upped with the Bengals.
