Well, it looks like Marde Gras might be arriving a little early this year. In an exciting 2nd half of football, the New Orleans Saints won Super Bowl IV 31-17 over the Indianapolis Colts. It was New Orleans first Super Bowl appearance in the team's history. The Saints rallied from a 10-6 half-time deficit behind two Drew Brees touchdown passes and Tracy Porter's interception of Peyton Manning that he returned 74 yards for a TD with nearly 3:00 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.
Brees finished as the game's MVP with 32 completions, tying Tom Brady's Super Bowl record, on 39 attempts for 288 yards passing with 2 TDs. With his contributions on and off the field, Brees has established a legacy in New Orleans as the most important sports figure in the city's history.
The team came into the game as the underdog but the favorite in the hearts of fans across the country. Their high flying offense and blitzkrieg defense had led them through the 2009 season and ultimately a Super Bowl title.
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans!
